My diet: first day

Posted by alpha mum on March 5, 2007

I started myself on those diet centers thing today, I got my lunchbox. Looks good. I hope it tastes as good as it looks.. Hehe. And most important is that I do loose the weight. I have been trying forever to go back to my weight before I got married.. Yes not only am I trying to lose the weight I gained through my pregnancy I am trying to go back to how I looked and felt before I got married. As my attempts at regulating my food and diet on my own failed miserably, I decided to join a diet center. Every day they will send me a basket that has my whole food for the day. After not so well research I found it to be the most suitable way to diet with my lifestyle. I barely have time to cook, and I end up having convenient fatty food. I will let you know how my diet is going, and of its development as I go through it. Wish me luck. Here is today’s menu:

thyme croissant ,0% fat strawberry yogurt and strawberries

veal escalope with wedges + chef salad

biscuit cake

rice stuffed pastry + yogurt with cucumber

Update: the biscuit cake to die for..yummy!!!!

1870 – 2007

Posted by alpha mum on February 14, 2007

Bonfils, F., Beirut (c.1870 [Estimated date.]

Written by W.M. Thomson, Protestant minister, in « The Land and the Book », published in London in 1870.

Lebanon has about 400,000 inhabitants, gathered into more than six hundred towns, villages and hamlets. The various religions and sects live together, and practice their conflicting superstitions in close proximity, but the people do not coalesce into one homogeneous community, nor do they regard each other with fraternal feelings.
The Sunnites excommunicates the Shiites both hate the Druse, and all three detest the Nusairiyeh. The Maronites have no particular love for anybody and, in turn, are disliked by all. The Greeks cannot endure the Greek Catholics – all despise the Jews. And the same remarks apply to the minor divisions of this land. There is no common bond of union.
Society has no continuous strata underlying it, which can be opened and worked for the general benefit of all, but an endless number of dislocated fragments, faults, and dikes, by which the masses are tilted up in hopeless confusion, and lie at every conceivable angle of antagonism to each other. The omnificent Spirit that brooded over primeval chaos can alone bring order out of such confusion, and reduce these conflicting elements into peace and concord.
No other country in the world, I presume, has such a multiplicity of antagonistic races; and herein lies the greatest obstacle to any general and permanent amelioration and improvement of their condition character, and prospects. They can never form one united people, never combine for any important religious or political purpose; and will therefore remain weak, incapable of self-government, and exposed to the invasions and oppressions of foreigners. Thus it has been, is now, and must long continue to be a people divided, meted out, and trodden down.

From your valentine…

Posted by alpha mum on February 14, 2007

My hubby as every year gave me the ” I tell you I Love you every day, I don’t need a day to show you that I love you” crap. Valentine is a hallmark occasion that he does not believe in valentine. Personally, I thought after having the same argument last year, he would have changed his mind, if not changed his mind, just got it through his thick head that I DO CARE ABOUT VALENTNES, and he should care enough to do something this year. Why do I care so much? I don’t really know.. Maybe because as a little girl at school only special girls got a flower or a card or even a stuffed animal, and it became a self esteem issue to be noticed on valentine, that you are somebody’s valentine.. Maybe growing up in a house where my parents celebrated valentine each year.. i really have no clue. Since he is being thick headed; i did something instead. I reserved for dinner, and sent him roses.. At least I will end up with the roses once he brings them home.. Smart huh…

Update:  my colleague just got flowers from her fiancé all the way in New York… I want.

A Byzantine Quarrel

Posted by alpha mum on February 6, 2007

I realized today,I have the worst habit ever. I should seriously start to choose my battles. Discussing and Debating topics with uneducated / know it all kind of people is a waste of time and energy. Plus I end up feeling frustrated at how stubborn and limited people really are.
I think I keep forgetting that I am no longer surrounded by well-read individuals that can counter back arguments with valid and reasonable comebacks, that would make me think, analyze and grow personally as well as mentally. I am upset… I truly am.
I guess nothing is like Main Gate, or the steps of College Hall.

Debbie Does Dallas AGAIN

Posted by alpha mum on January 24, 2007

i was in starbucks reading the international herald tribune while haveing the most delicious white chocolate mocha.. yummy. When i read A VERY INTRESTING  article :o) i wonder how clear is too clear:

“SAN FRANCISCO: The XXX industry has gotten too graphic, even for its own tastes. Pornography has long helped drive the adoption of new technology, from the printing press to the videocassette. Now pornographic movie studios are staying ahead of the curve by releasing high-definition DVDs.They have discovered that sometimes the technology is not so sexy. The high- definition format is accentuating imperfections in the actors — from a little extra cellulite on a leg to wrinkles around the eyes.”
